Venetian Plaster is made of slaked lime and crushed marble and is used to mimic the multi-toned, three-dimensional effect of natural stone and marble, eliminating the difficulties and higher cost of installing heavy slabs of marble or limestone. It’s been used for centuries and first became popular in the Roman Empire as a way to imitate natural stone surfaces inside palazzos, villas and cathedrals. Venetian Plaster is not only popular for its striking and luxurious effect but because it is an environmentally-sound natural material, unlike many types of paint, sealants and stains. It is VOC (volatile organic compounds) free and largely uses reclaimed materials such as marble dust, as well as being effective at absorbing carbon dioxide which provides healthier air and helps to reduce the carbon footprint.
